Orchestra Warm-up
This piece
combines a D Major Scale in smooth and tremolo bowing, rhythmic practice, and
pizzicato practice. Listen
closely to match pitch and stay in tempo with the rest of the orchestra. Watch your conductor.

The Broward County Jig
A jig is a kind of traditional
Irish folk music and dance. Jigs
are always written in 6/8 time.
ThatŐs six beats per measure, and the eighth note equals one
beat. Count, |1

The Honors
Waltz
A waltz is
always written in 3/4 time.
ThatŐs three beats per measure and the quarter note equals one
beat. The beginning and end of
this piece will take extra concentration to stay on your part. The 1st and, 2nd Violin, Viola,
Cello, and Bass parts all play the same notes, but are played as a
round. Make sure to stay with
your section and watch the conductor. |
Mysterious
Mood
This piece
was written to sound like the background music in a mysterious movie. In the middle there are glissandos
for the cello, viola, and violin parts.
A glissando is made by sliding your finger up or down the string, from
one pitch to another.

Honors
This piece
was written to provide players with an opportunity to solo. Practice making up your own
solos. A few of the best
soloists will be selected to solo in the concert! Solo Example Listen to, and experiment with
solo ideas. |

of Practice
This piece
involves playing, rapping, and foot stamping all at the same time! Memorize your parts. Watch your conductor! Stay with the group. Have fun! |
